What Font Does Discord Use? App, Logo and Website

Author: Lucky Oleg | Published

Discord has more than one font answer. Its official app typeface is gg sans; its wordmark is a custom design based on Ginto. On the public marketing homepage we checked on 28 October 2026, the browser drew paragraph text in ABC Ginto Discord and the main headline in ABC Ginto Discord Nord.

Those names describe different jobs. If you are identifying a screenshot or choosing typography for your own website, first decide whether you mean the app, logo or marketing page.

We did not inspect a signed-in chat session, the desktop app or a mobile app. The app attribution above comes from Discord’s documentation, rather than a new test of every Discord client.

What we measured on Discord’s website

We opened discord.com in a fresh, signed-out headless Chromium context at 1366 × 900 pixels, with an en-US locale. The capture began at 15:03 UTC on 28 October 2026. We used the font probe from our top 1,000 website font study, which reads computed styles and asks Chrome DevTools which font actually drew the sampled text.

SampleComputed CSS family stackFont returned by DevTools

First visible h2Abcgintodiscordnord, Arial, sans-serifABC Ginto Discord Nord

First visible paragraphAbcgintodiscord, sans-serifABC Ginto Discord
First visible linkAbcgintodiscord, sans-serifABC Ginto Discord Medium

Here, “visible” means a text element with a visible layout box in the loaded document, including elements below the fold. We did not scroll to trigger additional content. DevTools returned font information for all 23 sampled elements. The main body and heading families also matched the results recorded in our separate September 2026 study.

This is stronger evidence than finding a family name in a stylesheet. The page’s loaded-font list also contained a face called Ggsans, but it did not account for the sampled rendered text. A loaded font may be unused in those elements; loaded, declared and rendered are separate observations.

Likewise, Arial in the headline stack was a fallback request. Its presence in CSS does not mean Arial drew that headline.

You can download the public evidence JSON. It contains the stacks, rendered family names, sampling counts and test conditions, without redistributing Discord’s font files.

Why gg sans and Ginto both appear in the answer

Discord’s gg sans announcement described a rollout beginning on 1 December 2022 across its apps and other surfaces. That dated announcement explains the app’s typeface name. It does not establish that every future marketing headline must use it.

For the identity, Dinamo documents a bespoke wordmark and customization of Ginto for Discord. That is a different piece of evidence from inspecting a paragraph. Typing “Discord” in a retail Ginto font does not reproduce the custom wordmark.

The practical lesson is to attach a font finding to its page, role and date. “Discord uses gg sans” is useful for an app discussion, but it does not explain the marketing headline measured above.

Can you use Discord’s fonts in your project?

Discord’s font FAQ says gg sans is not open source and is not available for use in your own projects. Finding a font request in DevTools does not supply a reuse licence. The same distinction applies to the custom Discord builds of Ginto we observed.

If you want the retail Ginto family, use Dinamo’s Ginto page and check the licence for your intended use. Dinamo distinguishes web, app and other licences in its licensing FAQ. A retail licence should not be treated as access to Discord’s bespoke version.

For a permitted use of the actual Discord logo, consult Discord’s brand guidelines. They also restrict imitation of Discord’s visual identity. A font choice for your own brand should produce its own identity.

Fonts to test for an independent community website

These are our starting points for a design brief, rather than exact matches to Discord’s custom lettering.

The Google Fonts repository includes SIL Open Font License 1.1 files for Outfit and Inter, checked on 28 October 2026. Keep the relevant copyright notice and licence with redistributed font files, and review the conditions before modifying them.

Try your real text before choosing: a long community name, “Join the next session”, Il1 O0, accented names and the longest message your layout must accommodate. A display face that works for three words may be uncomfortable in a conversation thread.

For the broader decision, use our website font selection guide. If you already have a reference page, the free Website Font Checker can identify families and stacks in public HTML and CSS. Confirm important matches in the browser’s Computed → Rendered Fonts panel, as we did here.

Check conditions and limits

This was one public homepage visit from one connection. A separate Cloudflare trace check from the same machine reported network country GB. The browser ran on macOS 27, Playwright 1.64.1 and Chromium 156.0.8078.4. The existing study probe’s user agent advertised Chrome 153 with the identifying WebAlohaFontStudy/1.0 token.

We checked robots.txt, waited for fonts to become ready and sampled text present in the document. There were no logins, clicks, consent choices or scrolling. The result does not cover other languages, mobile layouts, closed shadow roots, iframe text or content loaded after our waiting window. Fonts and experiments can change after this date.

For another example of the same distinction, see what font Spotify uses, where its public web player’s UI and title families also have different names.
